ERIC THOMPSON
“Dead Roots Celebration”
with Pete Wernick, Vince Herman, Reed Stutz, Rafe Stefanini, John Mailander and special guests.
Eric Thompson has been a renowned guitar phenom for over six decades, noted for his taste, tone and soulful drive. A “living legend”, he attracted national attention in the early ‘60s while still a teenager, joining forces with Jerry Garcia and David Nelson in the Black Mountain Boys, David Grisman in the New York Ramblers, and the Charles River Valley Boys on their classic “Beatle Country” album. Over the years, Eric has delved deep into a pantheon of traditional styles along with bluegrass, lending his unique touch to old-timey, blues, jug band, Irish, and Cajun bands.
This promises to be a very special and unique show, delving into those Dead Roots. Pete Wernick, of Hot Rise fame, showed up visiting from NY, with his banjo in the basket of his bike, just as the Black Mountain Boys were forming in the summer of 1961. He and Eric have been bluegrass buddies ever since.
Eric, Pete, and Vince Herman w/Leftover Salmon, will all have just been performing and jamming at the Owensboro Bluegrass Museum’s kickoff event for their “Jerry Garcia’s Bluegrass Journey” exhibit. So they should be all warmed-up and stoked!
Eric has shared many an old-time tune with fiddler extraordinaire Rafe Stefanini, now residing in Nashville. Another local, multi-instrumentalist Reed Stutz, will lend his many talents. And……..expect unexpected guest stars. $10 at the door.
